From Judges to Kings to THE KING
"Commitment and Compassion"
November 12, 2017. Pastor Brandon Cash teaches from 2 Samuel chapter 9 on David's kindness to Mephibosheth.
It is not always easy to show commitment, nor is it easy to show compassion. Yet God has instructed us to "love our neighbor" (Leviticus 19) and Jesus taught us the same lesson in the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10).
In today's message, David has ascended to the throne as King of Israel. To honor his commitment to his best friend Jonathan (Saul's son), David sought out the last remaining descendant of Saul - Jonathan's son Mephibosheth - and showed him compassion all the rest of his days. David's words tell us that because of Yahweh's steadfast love and commitment to him, David will now show compassion to Mephibosheth.
This is exactly the response each of us ought to have. God has shown us His commitment and compassion by forgiving us, adopting us into His family and inviting us to eat at the King's table. God's commitment and compassion compel us to show commitment and compassion to those around us, especially those less fortunate.
