From Kings to the KING
"Grapes of Wrath"
April 22, 2018. Continuing our series in Kings, Pastor Mark Stepp brings us a message from 1 Kings 21.
King Ahab is continuing on his path of disobeying the ways of the Lord. Now he sets his eyes on a vineyard owned by Naboth, who righteously denies the king's request, saying: "The Lord forbid I should give you the inheritance of my fathers." (God's command to the Israelites is recorded in Numbers 36:7.) Ahab is angered to have his request denied, and Jezebel responds on Ahab's behalf by having Naboth (and his sons) slain. Thus Ahab, by unjust means, gets the vineyard.
Pastor Mark exhorts us to remember that when God's people suffer injustice, God sees it and He will intervene to bring justice to His wronged people. However, justice will be served according to God's timing. We are to trust the Lord and act righteously on behalf of injustice when it is within our means to do so. However, we will not always be able to right the injustices against us or others around us. Therefore, we hold to the promise that when Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, God's justice will be fulfilled. (2 Thessalonians 1:6-9)
